Good day! Welcome to the Forth Bridge Travel Info web site, dedicated to providing general information on world travel. On these pages, you’ll find helpful information on a variety of topics, destinations, travel opportunities, timeshares, cruises, tours, and other “stuff” you may find interesting. Throughout the web site, you’ll also find links to other web sites on similar subjects, and we invite you to click through to them.

The Forth Railway Bridge, depicted above, spans the Firth of Forth in Scotland near Edinburgh. It’s really a monstrous bridge, as you can see. This bridge is designed to withstand two hurricanes occurring at the same time, one going upriver on one bank while the other is going downriver on the opposite bank. Since it was designed shortly after another bridge had been destroyed by high winds, the designers played it a little bit safe with the Forth Bridge.

This bridge can carry two fully-loaded freight trains at sixty miles per hour, one in each direction, crossing simultaneously. The Scots have an expression “It’s like painting the Forth Bridge,” to refer to something that seems to be never-ending. That’s because the job of painting the Forth Bridge goes on continually. By the time the painters get the job done, it’s time to start over again, so it’s a life-long career! This web site is dedicated to my great-grandfather who was recruited from the shipyards near Glasgow to supervise the construction of the bridge.
